Resolute III - Subway Edition
A New Collaboration To Celebrate A Decade Of WindUp New York
To celebrate 10 years of Farer exhibiting at WindUp New York, we have once again collaborated with Chris Alexander, aka The Dial Artist, to create a unique version of our Resolute III.
For this exclusive drop, we took inspiration from New York City’s omnipresent institution, the iconic Subway.
NYC’s Subway is one of the world’s oldest public transit systems, having opened in 1904. It comprises 850 miles of track in total and is the busiest rapid transit system in the Western Hemisphere, with an average ridership of over 4 million every weekday in 2025.
This Subway Edition of the Resolute is specifically influenced by the mosaic artwork and signage that adorn many New York Subway stations, which have come to be synonymous with the transit system.
In the spirit of the iconic artwork, these dials are also artisanal pieces, with each taking Chris 6 hours to craft by hand. Not to mention this minute work is done without touching the overprinted Lumicast numerals that make the Resolute such an enduring fan-favourite. To create this striking design, Chris first laser-etches each dial to create the mosaic tiling effect. He then uses a subtle paint wash to create a grout effect and further define the tiles. Painted onto these white “tiles” are six bold bands in black, blue, burgundy, green, orange, and yellow. These reference the colour-coded station signage of stops along what was the Independent Subway System, which now forms part of the NYC Subway.
Only 25 units of the Resolute Subway Edition will ever be produced, and they will be available to purchase exclusively at WindUp New York, taking place 16th-18th October.
FEATURES
Universal Case - The case is 39mm in diameter, with a 45mm lug-to-lug and a thickness of only 11.8mm, making it easy for anyone to wear.
Night Light - Not only are the hands filled with luminous Super-LumiNova, but the applied numerals are moulded from solid blocks of Super-LumiNova. Together, these provide unparalleled legibility in the dark.
Hydrophobic - The Resolute is water-resistant to 100m thanks to a screw-down crown and a monobloc construction mid-case which incorporates the movement holder into the main body of the case, rather than as a separate piece.
Crystal Clear - The watch dial is protected by a domed box sapphire crystal, which has an internal anti-reflective coating. There is also a sapphire exhibition glass on the watch's rear.
STORY
Named after HMS Resolute, a mid-19th-century barque-rigged ship of the British Royal Navy, specially outfitted for Arctic exploration. In August 1853, hopelessly caught in arctic ice, there was no choice but for the crew to abandon ship, striking out across the ice pack in search of their supply ships. Most of them made it despite egregious hardship, straggling into Beechey Island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, between May and August, of the following year.
The American whale ship George Henry discovered Resolute drifting in the ice pack on September 10, 1855, 1,200 miles from her last known position. Senator James Mason of Virginia presented a bill in Congress to fix up the Resolute and give her back to Her Majesty Queen Victoria’s government, as a token of friendship between the two nations. HMS Resolute served in the British Navy until being retired and broken up in 1879. The British government ordered a desk to be made from the English oak of the ship’s timbers, and in 1880, the British government presented President Rutherford B. Hayes with the gift. A token of gratitude for the return of the HMS Resolute, 24 years earlier. It now sits as pride of place in the Oval Office as the desk of the US president.
